Slave bracelets, or hand flowers, had been long popular before making their debut in the Western world. As it turns out, India is where the term hand flower originated:" kamal" is the Hindi word for the Lotus flower and refers to this hand ornament, which was often an ornamental piece of bridal jewelry.
This particular "slave bracelet" was made by a Native American artisan with a very traditional Navajo design. All three elements feature sterling silver leaves, silver curls, dots and bright blue Kingman turquoise stones. The bracelet has a split shank and total inner circumference of approx. I think the bracelet is the most important part that needs to fit because the ring could always be re-sized and the chain could always be lengthened.
The ring currently measures a size 5. The center piece measures 1 3/16 inches long by 9/16 inch wide.
The inside of the ring shank is marked, "Sterling" and so is the center piece; the bracelet tested as sterling silver (no hallmark). The Kingman turquoise stones vary in size, shape and color and measure an average of 5mm x 7mm. There is vintage patina and expected age wear to this item including fine scratches an small dings to the silver. Overall, it is in good vintage condition for its age. This Vintage piece is very attractivel as is, but one could also opt to have a jeweler detach the 3 pieces and remove any extra hardware. The central piece could become a pendant and you'd have a whole jewelry set! Please see detailed measurements below. Total Wt: 26.3 grams.
