This piece is a very rare example of the work of Eva Shack Hooee, the daughter of Thomasine (Thomasina) Shack and wife of Norman Hooee. Eva's mother was playing with the design and Eva asked if she could have it and they perfected this lovely peacock together for Eva's use and Eva used it for some years, mostly the side view but this is a rare example of the front view. There are few known examples, and most ended up in private collections.
That piece was likely made in the late 1950s and this piece too should have been made during this golden age of Zuni art. The clasp on the back of the peacock says Bennett Pat Pend. C31 that further indicates that it was made in the 50's.
It is a breathtaking piece of art detailed with a selection of gorgeous rare inlaid stones. The peacock is 3" high and 2-1/2" wide. The tips are 3 with the dangles. The dangles were made in a detailed inlaid form of the peacock and are 1-1/4'H X 1-1/4 W. Length of the tie with tips is 41 end to end. Tie is original with braided leather strands.
