SUPERB OLD 1930s NAVAJO Coin Silver WHIRLING LOG THUNDERBIRD BRACELET M/F

A wonderful example of a Fred Harvey era Silver Bracelet hand stamped and with fantastic silver smithing Navajo artisans. The bracelet has great detailed hand stamping along both sides. On either side of the centerpiece is a very nice Thunderbird with a beautiful whirling logs at its heart. The center piece design is textured and raised and along the edges are powerful knife wing edges and stamps.

While it symbolizes good luck and the circles of life The government began asking Native Americans to not use the symbol in jewelry making after the 1930s because it too closely resembled a swastika. So that dates this piece to sometime in the 1920s early 1930s. It is heavier than other Fred Harvey jewelry and has a nice large for that would work on a man or woman.

And it is in very good condition. It is also a good example of Fred Harvey jewelry. Fred Harvey opened the first trading posts in America along the railroad line and later highways throughout the American south west. These trading posts commission Native American artists to create a lighter weight jewelry to sell to tourists and Army servicemen who are stationed in the area.

So generally they have a lighter profile and have typically got carvings of arrows horses Whirling logs etc. This one is heavier than others coming in at 25.3g. Its made for a larger wrist with a 6 inch inner measure plus an almost 2 inch gap so the smallest it can fit is around 6.25 or 6.5 inch wrist and can go up to 9pr a little lore. Its currently sized for about a 8.5inch wrist. It is made of Coin Silver.

900 slightly harder than sterling silver. In the 1920s and 1930s Navajo artisans or commissioned to make stamped bracelets for trading posts like the Fred Harvey company and they either used sterling silver or in got coins silver or melted coins that were made of. Coin silver is slightly harder and more lustrous than sterling beautiful rare and valuable.
