Santo Domingo Vintage Turquoise And Mixed Materials Thunderbird Necklace

This vintage Santo Domingo Indian turquoise and mixed materials thunderbird necklace with white stone beads measures approximately 27 (68.5 cm) in length not including the thunderbird. The thunderbird measures approximately 2-7/8" (7.3 cm) by 1-15/16" (4.9 cm) across the wing.

The dangle pieces measure approximately 15/16" (2.4 cm) by 3/8" (1 cm). These Santo Domingo items were made of found materials and were the first jewelry items for which the Santo Domingo Pueblo became well known.

The red typically came from red plastic dinnerware or Dairy Queen spoons. Plastic from car batteries or old vinyl records was used for the backing. Missing one red piece on a dangle as can be seen in the photos and some glue residue can be seen.
